513/606 Commodore BBS Scene – People, Randoms
Drew Vogel
Ran the Cafe BBS, now runs a popular blog. Drew was always very cool to me.
Hawkman
Don’t remember much about this guy
Silver Paladin
Ran Paladin’s Keep BBS
Hitler
What kind of guy uses “Hitler” for a handle? Oddly enough, this kid wasn’t a dick at all.
Bulletproof
Don’t remember much about this guy
The Nut (The Fury)
Poor guy got tired of being heckled for calling himself “The Nut” so he changed his handle (after the infamous YWN “The Nut” demo). He changed it to “The Fury” and was known as “The Fairy” forever after.
Kinky Kathy
Her son ran The Basement BBS. She later hooked up with (and is still with) Cichlid/DLoC
Haviland Tuf
Don’t remember much about this guy, except that he was really cool at the TSA gatherings.
DAV!D
David was one of the few people who would actually contribute money to help a BBS pay it’s bills. Top-knotch user, and all around nice guy.
Troll
Troll came along as the scene was dying, and tried to run a C64 BBS. Everyone had internet access then, so it didn’t work out.
Rocky
Roger Zutterling, Very cool user who moved out of the local scene early on (87-ish)
Stuart Linder
Regular attendant at TSA events.
Midnight Maniac
AFAIK, the only openly gay user on the BBS’s
Mr. Wonderful
Ty was from New Richmond or something. Originally aligned with Big Red, he actually turned out to be a really cool guy.
Hulk Hogan
Kind of a lamer, but harmless enough
Jeff Spicoli
Didn’t do much in the local BBS scene, but will always be remembered for writing SCBBS, quite a good piece of BBS Software.
Thor/YWN
Shadow’s sidekick. Last I heard, he was in a band.
Breaker D
Mike Crawwson. He used to impersonate me at user-group meetings out of state. Last I heard, he was living in Texas and doing quite well. He used to be kind of a momma’s boy, always afraid of getting in trouble. The one time we really hung out was kind of too much of a whiskey-drinking crazy good time for him and his little suburban buddies, so we didn’t hang out much after that. I should call him up and tell him I’m coming to visit and bringing kegs.
Violator/TSA
Sysop of the X-Change
Matt Powell/TSA
Sysop of another TSA BBS
Red Baron
Warez d00d. I’ve got around 1500 disks with his name on them.
Salamander
Sysop of Salamander Slander, a good board from the early days of the scene (83-87)
Garfield
Cool guy. Got me started on the 64 early on by bringing me warez from out of state.
Daryth
Kinky Kathy’s son, ran The Basement BBS
The Captain
Currently in jail with Dr. Who for something or other.
The Wire
Super cool guy. Used to show up at all the TSA events.
Candorr
Not sure what was the deal with this guy. I think he did something to cross Shutter Jockey, but I can’t remember enough details to put him on the lamer list.
The Enforcer
This guy used to call me all the time and just hang on the phone. Nice enough kid on the BBS, though. Longknife used to delight in calling him up and making wierd noises.
Dungeon Master (Viper)
The first person I met “in the scene”. All-around cool guy. Found him on facebook about a month ago, and he’s still as cool as ever.
Creeping Death
I hung out with this guy once with Hellraiser and some other guys. He was a heavy-metal dude, and knew a lot about coding. Don’t know what ever became of him.
Hoss
Don’t remember a lot about this guy.
